Denmark - Martin Professional customer care coordinator, Tina Melholt, is celebrating 25 years with the company. Melholt, who ranks as the longest serving employee at the Danish-based lighting manufacturer, started in 1985 when Martin was called dp electronic A/S and produced only amplifiers and a smoke machine.

"Twenty-five years is a long time and obviously there has been a lot of growth and a lot of changes," she notes. "I remember our first exhibition, which was in London. Our stand was so small we could hardly fit two people in it."

In 2007 the Professional Lighting and Sound Association (PLASA) introduced the National Rigging Certificate to formalise an assessment of competency in the rigging sector of the entertainment industry.

The NRC Level 3 standard is currently the highest recognised measurement of competency for rigging in the entertainment industry and reinforces the company's commitment to maintaining high levels of competency, service and safety.

France - French loudspeaker manufacturer APG has announced the appointment of Philippe Pelmelle to the position of business development manager with effect from 1 September. The move is part of a larger restructuring and strengthening exercise within APG that began last year with the hiring of Xavier Pion to handle international sales and marketing, and was continued this year with the promotion of Mathieu Delquignes to the position of product manager.

Pelmelle's role will be to develop APG's business in France; that is, to increase market share and to put in place and nurture the networks of APG technical specialists, rental and sales partners that will make this possible. UK - Tendai Mucheri from Ascot, Berkshire, a winner of the Sennheiser Prize for Best Music Production Recording 2010, graduated with BA (Hons) Audio & Music Production from Bucks New University on 6 September.

This annual award recognises what Sennheiser considers to be the best recording produced by Bucks graduates. Working with recording artist, The Carps, Tendai and fellow team member, Kumbirai Ruzuidzo, recorded and produced two master tracks as the final project in his production company coursework, and was chosen as the winner of this year's competition.

UK - GDS has announced that Dave Harris has joined the company as design engineer. Harris has worked in the entertainment industry for over 15 years and brings with him a wide range of skills in manufacture and design along with years of experience of working on special projects.

His work has included the design, build and installation of fully autonomous searchlights which form part of the festive lighting at the top of the world's tallest building, the Burj Khalifa in Dubai. USA - Harman Professional has named Graham Hammell as director of its core research and development team, the System Development and Integration Group (SDIG). The announcement comes as SDIG's mandate is broadened to address more Harman Professional product families and also a greater number of application markets.
