Germany - Philips Electronics announced a number of new product developments at ProLight + Sound in Frankfurt.

Philips has enlarged the MSR product range with Philips MSR Gold 700 FastFit and Philips Hi-Brite 750 FastFit. This rear load lamp base system has been codeveloped with Bender & Wirth. The benefit of this new lamp concept is not only a fast lamp replacement due to the unique lamp and lamp holder design, it also includes an increased brightness, provides the opportunity to reduce fixture size and weight, assures reliability due to pinch protection technology and has an excellent colour quality, says the company.

The new Philips Ceramic ST 500HR has a colour temperature of 3200K, "excellent" colour characteristics and homogeneous beam intensity. Light output of the Ceramic ST 500HR equals the light output of a Halogen 2000W light source.

UK - Allen & Heath has introduced a fourth control surface to the iLive digital mixing console system, joining the existing iLive-122, iLive-144 and iLive-176. The new iLive-80 is the smallest in the range of control surfaces, designed for smaller applications such as theatres, churches and touring bands.

Providing 80 control strips grouped in two sections, each with four banks, there is an LCD display with multicolour backlight above each fader for labelling and colour-coding channel information. The channel controls for preamp, filter and EQ are laid out across the top of the surface on rotary controls with LED indicators, while a colour LCD touch screen presents a graphical view of the processing and access to gates, compressors, limiter/de-essers, graphic EQ's and effects, as well as the automation and set up screens. Audio at the surface is available on four slots accommoda

Germany - The new K8 digital audio distribution system from Klein + Hummel, is billed as "ideal for transporting professional quality audio across a facility". It can be used for simple point-to-point connections, or can form a distribution backbone for sending up to 16 audio channels to multiple remote locations.

The advantage of the K8 system, says the manufacturer, is that it carries 16 channels of uncompressed digital audio over a standard Cat 5 cable, at a rate of 48kHz, with a depth of 24 bits, and a total latency of less than 1 millisecond. The same cable also carries bi-directional data for remote monitoring and control of all devices connected within the K8 system over a single Ethernet port.

Cable lengths may be run up to a total of 200m through passively daisy-chained K8 devices. Actively refreshing the line with a K8 distribution amplifier allows "en

USA - Telecast Fiber Systems and Canon USA have announced a joint solution that allows broadcasters to overcome physical obstacles to the transmission of HD camera signals for production. The pairing of Telecast's SHED (SMPTE Hybrid Elimination Devices) and HDX with Canon's new Canobeam DT-150 Free-Space Optics (FSO) transmission system makes it easy for broadcasters to move HD and control signals from existing HD camera systems through a secure, high-speed, high-quality transmission, say the two companies.

"The Canobeam provides the same benefits offered by fibre, but without the physical restraints of cabling," said Gordon Tubbs, director of the Canon broadcast and communications division. "Like fibre, the system is protocol-independent and thus integrates easily with the Telecast SHED/HDX solution. Because it transmits uncompressed data, users can move media co

Spain - The Ti Line from Vieta is a new, compact, remote-controllable amplifier system, designed for low to medium power use in fixed installations. The small, modular amplifier blocks are to DIN rail size and fixing standards, the standard for mains wiring in Europe, compatible with a range of off-the-shelf accessories such as waterproofing and fire-safety covers, which can be sourced from any electrical trade wholesalers. The Ti Line Blocks simply click into place on the DIN rail.

The DIN standard allows the amplifiers to be fitted where all the other electrical mains hardware lives - fuse boxes etc - saving valuable space in smaller shops and bars. Alternatively, the Blocks can be mounted locally throughout larger multiple speaker installations, close to the speakers and thus saving long cable runs and signal losses.

EQ and Level can be set on the blocks themselves or contr
