USA - Barco debuted a number of new High End Systems lighting and control products at LDI in Las Vegas.

Making its worldwide debut were the Showbeam automated wash luminaire, and the Showgun 2.5 automated luminaire. Also making its first appearance was the DMX Processor 8000 for Wholehog software.

Showbeam features a jointly developed Philips MSR 2500-watt lamp source that produces 140,000 lumens of light output. A smooth field, soft edge illumination is produced with a new radial lenticular homogenizing lens system that provides the fixture with a special look on stage. The dedicated soft edge light has user changeable fixed colours, a variable CTO and a full CMY colour mixing system. The soft edge profile can be rapidly zoomed from 12 to 32 degrees.

USA Elation Professional has introduced the ELED Fresnel, a modern-day version of the white Fresnel stage light that's powered by LEDs.

Instead of the traditional halogen lamp, the ELED Fresnel utilises a 50W, 6,000k white LED module as its light source. This module, comprised of a cluster of white LEDs, emits a high output that's equivalent to a 500W halogen lamp. Yet because of the amazing energy efficiency of LEDs, the ELED Fresnel draws a total of only 75W of power, allowing theatres and productions to save on their energy bills.

"An LED-powered Fresnel is an idea whose time has definitely come, and it's something our customers have been asking for," said Eric Loader, director of sales for Elation Professional. "There will always be a huge demand in the theatrical market for a basic Fresnel to use as a white light or to put your own custom colour filter on.

USA - American DJ's new Tri Phase LED moonflower earned the Crystal Disc Award from DJzone at the recent LDI Show in Las Vegas. The product was chosen over all other lighting products at the show that were designed for mobile entertainers.

Part of American DJ's new Tri-LED line of effects, the Tri Phase features three-in-one Tri-Color LED Technology that combines three different colored LEDs (red, green, and blue) into a single 10W LED source, to produce a spectrum of colour possibilities. This creates more vibrant and even toned mixed colours in spotlights, while allowing moonflower effects to produce beams in more colours than just red, blue and green, says the company.

"Our team devoted a great deal of energy and ideas to this project to create a product that opened new creative opportunities for entertainers," said Scott Davies, general manager of the American D

USA - Alcorn McBride has introduced the Digital Binloop HD, a product that provides playback of up to eight HD video channels in only three rack units. Designed for themed entertainment, museums, and other applications requiring high-resolution video playback, the Digital Binloop HD stores video on CompactFlash so it has no moving parts to wear out and handles video resolutions of 1080i, 720p, 480P/576P, or 480I/576I.

The Digital Binloop HD outputs video via HDMI or HD-SDI (SMPTE-292M) with embedded audio. Analogue video formats include component (YPbPr) or RGB, with composite Standard Definition monitor output; the unit can offer simultaneous SD and HD monitor outputs.

In addition to the unit's HD video capabilities, the Digital Binloop HD also supports stereo audio or Dolby or DTS bitstreams. It can also output networked audio via a CobraNet option. Any or all tracks can be

USA - Elation Professional has introduced the high-performance ELED Strip RGBW. A high-output RGBW bar, the ELED Strip RGBW shoots an intense wash of vivid colour across walls and other large surfaces with a powerful array of 60 1W LEDs (15 LEDs each red, green, blue and white), says the company.

Designed for wall washing and other long throw applications, the ELED Strip RGBW measures 40" long and has a beam angle of 40° x 80°. One of its special features is a new asymmetrical optic system that produces a flat linear beam of light, as opposed to the less-focused circular-like patterns created by many LED strips. Because of the greater focus and concentration of its beam, the ELED Strip RGBW will produce a noticeably more even-toned and robust colour wash when projected on a wall or running length of a surface.

"To be an effective wall wash, an LED strip shoul

USA - Entertainment supplier White Light from the UK and lighting manufacturer City Theatrical from the US won the Best Product award in the Special Effects category at this year's LDI Show in Las Vegas, for the White Light Snow Machine.

UK - LCC Photon Technik has introduced four new fluorescent fixtures to complement the extensive spread of fluorescent and conventional lighting fixtures already in the range.

The first two are fixtures specifically designed to light cycloramas. The two-tube fixtures are for the smaller studio, the four-tube units are for the taller cyc that tends to be in purpose built studio spaces. These fixtures have three types of control available DMX/Local, Phase Dimmed and Non Dim. The aysymetric reflectors negates the use of an intensifier and means the depth of the units can be reduced thus saving space.

The third unit is a four- tube, round focusable fluorescent spotlight. This unit creates a natrual catchlight in the eye and has the ability to be "spotted or flooded", says the company.

The last newcomers to the range are a three (RGB), four (RGBY) and eight(Twin RGBY) f

UK / Portugal - Following the release of its Chimera, a hybrid valve/solid-state preamp, earlier in the year, Sontronics has launched the Sonora, a two-channel solid-state preamp. Designed and developed in the UK, and manufactured by the company's team of engineers in Portugal, the Sonora is a dual-channel preamp/DI with two discrete solid-state channels, capable of "delivering the highest standard of audio reproduction at an amazingly low price" the company says.

Sonora's size makes it ideal for studio recording and as a portable front-end in live performance and stereo recording applications outside the studio. Its ultra-linear frequency response has been honed to a variance of just ±0.1dB from 20Hz to 20kHz. It also boasts 60dB of distortion-free headroom and 60dB of gain, transparent signal integrity, very fast transient response and electronically balanced ins an

UK - Tannoy has announced the launch of the i9VP vandal proof loudspeaker. A development of the Tannoy i9, the i9VP (Vandal-Proof) is a tall, slim but ruggedly built loudspeaker equipped with four 100mm (4") low frequency direct radiating drive units and three 25mm (1") titanium dome tweeters, partially horn loaded and arranged as a line source.

Designed for use in acoustically challenging applications where wide but controlled coverage is required, the dispersion characteristics of the i9VP (Vandal-Proof) direct sound into the desired space while minimising ceiling reflection from above. This makes it suitable for high quality speech reinforcement in highly reverberant or expansive spaces such as transportation hubs, convention centres and retail malls. The solid metal housing and protected cable run make this product especially suited to outdoor/public spaces where t
