India - India's biggest society wedding event of the year for over 2000 guests in Delhi used a TiMax SoundHub-S for surround sound enhancement to Canada's Cirque Eloize acrobatic show, plus synchronised animated audio and video on the dance floor in conjunction with the powerful Immersive video server and mapping engine.

Commissioned by Arjun Bahl of Most Technical India who were the specialist media suppliers for the event, sound design was by Out Board's Dave Haydon and involved multiple surround zones running parallel 3D surround and dynamic delay-panning effects simultaneously for the performance stage, audience seating plus lounge areas and then later for the dance floor.

A separate surround system ran a continuously looping ethereal soundscape generated by TiMax as an accompaniment to the candelabras, chandeliers, mirrors and dry ice that greeted guests as they pa

Austria - BSS Audio was chosen for sound processing at the new Glock Horse Performance Centre in the Austrian town of Treffen bei Villach, in Carinthia. The school, named after its sponsor, Austrian firearms manufacturer Gaston Glock, needed the capability to provide consistent audio coverage across the facility's four riding halls. The installation was performed by Musik-Aktiv with the assistance of Harman Professional distributor Kain Audio.

The facility deploys four Soundweb London BLU-160 devices and four BLU-BOB 8-channel output expanders, placed on the Soundweb London fault-tolerant digital audio bus. The two mobile racks are configured identically and the digital audio bus audio channels can be connected at four different points. Feeding the BLU-BOB devices, source inputs include four wireless commentator microphones (with pre-programmed ducking function), and a small ext

Germany - Two of Germany's pre-eminent sound rental companies are among the first in the world to place orders for Nexo's new 45N12 stage monitor loudspeaker. Babbel & Haeger OHG and Pro Musik have taken 36 units between them, the first to be made available in the country.

CAMCO, the German distributor of Nexo products, hosted a successful demonstration of the new monitors to a meeting of Nexo hire companies. "We had a lot of fun with the N12," reports CAMCO's Reinhard Steger. "The technology has very clear and obvious design and technical advantages, and its unique selling points are all patented. For applications which require dedicated monitors, it makes very sound economic sense."

Both Pro Musik and Babbel & Haeger OHG have been dedicated Nexo users for a number of years, and were impressed by the design and useability of Nexo's first purpose-built wedg

Germany - Riedel Communications has announced that all of its intercom-over-IP products are fully compatible to the just recently released EBU Tech 3347 standard. This makes Riedel the first manufacturer providing VoIP intercom products compliant to the EBU Tech 3347 standard.

For meeting the growing demand for standardized protocols for IP based intercom, the European Broadcast Union (EBU) defined the specifications for interoperable intercom-over-IP. The EBU Tech 3347 standard will allow for a standardized operation between interfaces of different vendors, thus changing the way large installation will be handled in the future. Interoperable intercom will also make it easier for broadcasters to communicate with each other at large-scale events such the Eurovision Song Contest, which is run by the EBU.

The EBU Tech 3347 standard makes use of technology already common in IP tel

Music Licensing - New Conservative peer and former ITV chairman Michael Grade used his maiden speech in the House of Lords to back Tim Clement-Jones' Live Music Bill, claiming the 2003 Licensing Act which it seeks to amend is a "bad law" that denies up and coming music talent the chance to develop their skills.

UK - Andrew Johnson and his company, Pressure Wave Audio's latest project is the sound design and audio equipment supply for Southwark Playhouse's production of the Stephen Sondheim classic, Company. The complexity of the design and restrictions on space dictated the need for a small, yet powerful and versatile mixing console. Andrew looked to DiGiCo's SD9 to fulfil the brief.

"Southwark Playhouse is a very complicated venue with a lot of acoustic challenges, so we've tried to keep the sound system as simple as possible, whilst still dealing with the demands and complexities of the show," says Johnson.

"We're running separate band and vocal systems and the desk is dealing with all the processing and EQ for all outputs. This means that we're not only using the desk to EQ the system, but to time it as well. A lot of people would use external processing for

Japan - Onkyo Tokki (OTK) recently carried out a QSC Installation Line Array (ILA) fit-out at Spa Resort Hawaiians in the Fukushima prefecture. The Hawaiian theme park is situated just two hours from Tokyo and is featured in the popular Japanese movie, Hula Girls.

OTK reports that the existing sound rig badly needed upgrading, since the oldest of the original systems had been installed 14 years before, and was beyond repair. It also lacked clarity - and sufficient SPL to provide even coverage across the 1000-capacity space. Furthermore, other design features (such as a 'wrecked ship') had been added, while the peripheral and service areas had also been expanded.

The operators wanted to achieve an even dispersion right to the outermost seats in the wide arc, with a consistent SPL that didn't deviate off axis.

A QSC solution was recommended as being the most cost-effect

UK - A new venue, reduced load in time and more live music than ever before meant the 2011 BRIT Awards was set to test the mettle of its audio crew. But with a sound design from BRIT Awards veteran Derrick Zieba, audio systems and crew, including RF technician Barry Macleod, via Britannia Row Productions and comprehensive support from Sennheiser UK's team of Mark Saunders, Andy Lilywhite and Tim Sherratt, it proved to be one of the best in BRIT Awards' history.

"Over the many years in which we were in Earl's Court, we had pretty much the same technical team putting the show together and we'd honed set up time to a minimum, thereby maximising what we were doing and giving real value for money," says Zieba.

This year, the Awards moved to The O2, acquired a new designer and many new team members. Also, because The O2 has such a busy show schedule, Derrick and his crew f

USA - AVnu Alliance hosted an AVB plugfest last week at Harman Professional's Signal Processing Group in Salt Lake City. The AVnu Alliance is the industry forum dedicated to the advancement of professional-quality audio video by promoting the adoption of the IEEE 802.1 Audio Video Bridging (AVB) standards over various networking link-layers.

The plugfest - an invitation-only gathering of hardware manufacturers with near-market ready products - featured Harman and five other manufacturers testing interoperability and performance of AVB prototype technologies. During the plugfest, engineers from the different companies had a rare hands-on opportunity to test connectivity, interoperability and interfaces.

"The promise of AVB is universal connectivity with no performance compromises," said Rob Urry, Harman Professional CTO, vice president. "But to achieve this, all

France - An historic Parisien landmark, the Hotel de Ville is as beautiful on the inside as it is on the outside. As well as housing all of the administration for the city of Paris - the Hotel de Ville has been the location of the municipality of Paris since 1357 - it is also one of Paris's most important cultural venues. It is the headquarters for all Parisien 'associations' (non-profit social, cultural and sporting organizations) and hosts numerous public meetings and receptions.

When the time came to replace the mixing console in the Hotel de Ville's grandest reception room, the aptly named Salle des Fetes, technical director Dominique Dunesme selected an Eclipse digital console from Innovason.

"We host between 400 - 600 events per year," he says. "That's an average of about three or four per week, and it can be anything from fashion shows to conferences and

UK - St George's Church in Chichester has had a new Bose sound system installed which has, according to the Rector, dramatically improved the clarity of the spoken word. The church's ageing sound system was not reaching everyone in the congregation, and messages were being lost due to the variations in the speaking pace and style of visiting clergy and lay speakers. Constant manual adjustments were required to get the best results and this was taking its toll on the church staff.

Bose Pro Partner, AB Audio Visual, was invited in to discuss the issues, and after listening carefully to the needs of the church, presented some options and even demonstrated the system that they believed would give the best results. Once agreed, the installation team began work, fitting in well with church routines and all was completed in less than a week.

Germany - Peavey Electronics will once again sponsor the Agora Stage at Frankfurt's Musikmesse this year, providing audio equipment from all of its brands including Peavey, Crest, MediaMatrix and Architectural Acoustics. Special guests will include dub supergroup Tackhead and multi-talented Canadian metaller Devin Townsend.

The Agora Stage is actually made up of two stages (A & B) which are run adjacent to each other, so to maintain sufficient coverage, three hangs of Peavey's Versarray line array system will be deployed: one hang dedicated to each stage, and a central hang serving both. Each hang will comprise eight Versarray 212 three-way tri-amped mid/high enclosures; and 24x Versarray 218 subwoofers will be arrayed beneath the stage to provide low frequency reinforcement.

Twenty-four Crest Pro 9200 amplifiers will be dedicated to the subs (one per sub); and the Versarray 2

UK - Rising US R&B star Jason Derulo has completed a string of UK dates as part of his debut world tour, accompanied by a Midas PRO6 at front of house.

"I wish I'd tried the PRO6 sooner," says FOH engineer Greg Bess, a long term Midas user with over 30 years' experience, encompassing rockers Slayer to soul stars Simply Red and many in between. "I've tried just about every digital desk out there and always ended up going back to my trusty Midas XL4. But the PRO6 is different. It absolutely clears the bar in meeting the Midas standard of audio quality and accuracy."

Having first used a PRO6 with The Offspring, a band he has mixed for 14 years, Bess had no hesitation in specifying the console for Derulo's critical first headlining tour. "Midas started out with audio as the cornerstone and followed through with ergonomics and solid construction," he s

Germany - Berlin's Berghain dance club has wrapped up its first year of operation with a Meyer Sound system in its Panorama Bar.

Installed by Schalldruck of Berlin, the sound system for the relatively intimate (13m x 4.4m) Panorama Bar features a pair of JM-1P loudspeakers in each corner of the dance floor. Visceral bass saturates the space from two hidden stacks of three-each 600-HP subwoofers, while an L-C-R system with three UPA-2P loudspeakers and a 500-HP subwooferprovides DJ monitoring. Both systems are optimized and driven by a Galileo loudspeaker management system with a Galileo 616 processor.

"We had been asked to update the Panorama Bar's sound system as part of a partial redesign and technical upgrade of the room," sayss Werner Eicker, managing director of Schalldruck. "We immediately suggested a Meyer Sound system based on JM-1Ps, and their performan
