UK - Projected Image Digital has supplied a Catalyst version 4 system to ITV Productions at The Manchester Studios, makers of the popular Make Your Play game show. This is broadcast live on ITV1 and the ITV Play channel on Thursday Friday and Saturday nights between midnight and 4.30 a.m., presented by Ben Baldwin and Alex Kramer.

The Catalyst was specified by Neil Breakwell, the show's executive producer. He sought a flexible, cost-effective method to giving the show high production values and a contemporary, feel that provided an interesting background. He also wanted to be able to quickly introduce light, shade or other visual moods to the show whilst integrating with the music bed. Catalyst was initially recommended to him by TV LD Chris Rigby.

UK - When the Mela came to Birmingham's National Exhibition Centre, PSL, one of the UK's leading production services suppliers, was pleased to let a bit of the Bollywood magic rub off. Billed as the Ultimate Asian Experience, the huge three-day event occupying three halls of the NEC represented a fresh challenge for PSL.

Contracted by Clarion Events, PSL's Birmingham team, based at the NEC itself, provided all of the technical production for three main stages, from creating the specification for the stage areas and building them, to designing and providing all lighting, sound, and projection.

In the Bollywood Cinema area, which was run by BAFTA, some of Bollywood's leading stars were appearing, and PSL set up a 20ft x 15ft screen, using twin projection producing 24,000 lumens of brightness. In the vast space of the NEC's Hall 3a, capable of housing crowds of 5,000, PSL also fl

UK - XL Video supplied hardware and crew for the high profile DJ Shadow tour which utilised a massive projected set as the show's visual centrepiece.

The ground-breaking collection of atmospheric and provocative images are produced by a US-based team of visual artists led by Ben Coles. They are stored on DVDs and replayed live by Shadow via two Pioneer DVJX1's DVD decks, output to screen via an Edirol v 4 mixer.

XL supplied nine Barco RLM G5i projectors, complete with Barco 0.8:1 wide angle lenses to rear project onto the 24 ft wide set/projection area, which consisted of a top and a bottom screen - the top measuring 6ft high and the bottom 12 ft. The set and the screen surfaces were custom built and sourced via Litestructures.

UK - The latest in a long line of high-profile film premiere events to use PSL video technology is Eragon. The epic fantasy-adventure movie staged its world premiere at the Odeon cinema in Leicester Square, an event designed and produced by Lucy Smail of West Design & Production, who also created the spectacular after-show party that followed.

PSL was commissioned by West Design to provide a four-metre wide screen on the front of the cinema to show extracts from the movie, as well as an unusual triangular structure featuring three five-metre screens in the Square itself. These showed content specially created by Digital Insanity, in collaboration with Fox and Industrial Light & Magic (ILM).

USA - Gear-Source Inc has announced some changes to its organisation, intended to "better service the expanding sales and market segments the company now services". With immediate effect, Henry Kones will take on the expanded title of VP of sales and special accounts. This promotion comes on the heels of Kones' first anniversary with the company.

UK / Europe - Lighting designer Ivan Morandi produced a highly inventive, fully integrated lighting and visual show for Placebo's recent UK and European arena tour, with video equipment and crew supplied by XL Video UK.

Morandi produced all the pre-recorded video content himself, which was stored on two Catalyst v 4 digital media servers. He also wove feeds from 16 cameras into the mix - a mixture of Toshiba mini cams and Panasonic DV cam units with remote pan and tilt heads. The two types of video sources and lighting were meshed together into a seamless collage of images.

XL Video's Des Fallon project managed the tour and says: "It's always good working with someone as creative as Ivan. He puts a lot of intelligence and thought into his work - and the results speak for themselves."

UK - Exhibition Specialists Silver Knight worked with luxury boat maker Sealine to produce a stunning, technology-led exhibition stand at the Collins Stewart London Boat Show 2007. The 1400sq.m space was designed by Silver Knight to not only display several ranges of boats, but incorporate VIP areas, an under-floor conference room, catering, office and storage facilities. The stand also provided the international launch platform for Sealine's newest boat, the SC38, to the international press attending the show.

It incorporated 12 boats, creatively lit to ensure they were the star of the stand with a fully integrated AV solution to ensure the lifestyle messages and brand were communicated effectively to the visitors at the exhibition. Qatar - Element Labs Inc was contracted by the Doha Asian Games Organizing Committee (DAGOC) to create the largest custom LED screen ever used for a live event. Especially designed for the opening and closing ceremonies of the 15th Asian Games in Doha, Qatar, the exterior Versa RAY screen made its debut during the Opening Ceremony on 1 December 2006 at Khalifa Stadium.

The Asian Games, held every four years with athletes competing from all over Asia, is regulated by the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) under the auspices of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

UK - Digital lighting and video specialists Projected Image Digital launches the first of its 2007 Digital Video Workshops - due to be held on Tuesday 6 February at The Questors Theatre, Mattock Lane, Ealing, London W5 5BQ. Lighting North Tradeshow is moving to a new purpose-built exhibition hall with 50% more space to facilitate an expanded exhibitor line-up and rising attendance levels, the company reports. The event takes place on 1-2 May in the new Saviles Hall at the Royal Armouries Museum in Leeds, which is adjacent to the original location and now the city's largest exhibition venue.

UK - XL Video UK supplied full video production and crew to Blink TV for Kylie's visually stunning Showgirl Homecoming tour. The live IMAG mix was cut by Ruary MacPhie and the tour's video elements were co-ordinated by crew chief Stuart Heaney. It continued XL's long standing relationship with the artist.

Added for this final section of the tour were four extra Barco ILite 10 high resolution screens, all flown on a Kinesys automation system supplied by Neg earth, coming in and out at various points throughout the show. The new screens were each constructed from 6 x 6 panels of ILite, measuring approximately 2.7sq.m, They joined a centre portrait format hi-res screen that was on the previous tour, made from 6 x 10 modules of I-10.

UAE - Dubai-based production company HQ Creative, working closely with Done Events, delivered the opening ceremony of the 18th Gulf Cup in Abu Dhabi's Zayed Sports City Stadium. The show, conceived by HQ's creative director Katie Veira, was a 37-minute mixed media spectacular, and the largest opening event to date for a football tournament.

The performance featured 1200 live performers, 55 horses and an international production team of over 400, working with around 1700 local crew over the build period. The show was enjoyed live by 55,000 excited spectators and a TV audience of 50 million who tuned in to Dubai Sports.

Hong Kong - Being one of Europe's oldest university towns, Bologna is synonymous with Italy's largest motor show which is hosted annually. UK - Plans for a National Skills Academy for the creative and cultural industries have been boosted with the addition of more influential supporters. PLASA - the Professional Lighting and Sound Association - is the latest organisation to join the unprecedented alliance of employers and industry bodies backing the project.

The Academy is designed to address shortages in offstage and technical skills for live music and the performing arts. Detailed plans being prepared by Creative & Cultural Skills, the employer-led Sector Skills Council, will be submitted to the government in April 2007.

UK - XL Video has supplied design collective United Visual Artists (UVA) with Barco O-Lite modules for their critically acclaimed interactive music installation, 'Volume' at the V&A Museum, London. The work was commissioned buy the V&A as part of the Playstation Season, and is a collaboration between UVA, Robert Del Naja (3D of Massive Attack) and his long-term co-writer Neil Davidge (as part of their music production company, one point six).

Staged in the V&A's John Madejski Garden, the O-Lite is arranged into 46 columns mounted on 6 x 7 grid, each column consisting of 24 O-Lite modules stacked on top of one another. These measure 2.5 metres in height by 12cm wide, and the columns are placed 2m apart, each with a speaker on top.

These DXF (Data Exchange Format) files are available for download from the Kramer Electronics and Sierra Video websites and include every model in both the Kramer and Sierra Video product lines.

The DXF Drawing Library offers product line drawings (of the front and back panel) for use in rack elevation illustrations. It also offers CAD blocks for use in signal flow and wiring diagrams.
