Denmark - DPA Microphones has launched its first cardioid headband microphone, the DPA 4088. Utilizing the company's renowned miniature microphone technology, the 4088 was developed in response to demand from customers who perceived a gap in the market for a high-quality, discrete cardioid headband microphone.

"Our customers strongly indicated that they were in need of a cardioid headband that would have a comfortable and secure fit and would be able to handle that loud stage sound experienced in some live shows and television," says Craig Parrish, sales and marketing manager at DPA Microphones. "The DPA 4088 opens up new opportunities in the live performance market to us, and we are extremely excited to be working with a product which has been carefully designed to meet the requirements of this market."

UK - The Cardioid Subwoofer Array (CSA), d&b's phantom new product offering, is in fact nothing at all. The CSA function has been added to d&b's toolbox negating the need for dedicated cardioid cabinets. Rather, the function has been created within the D12 amplifier, the latest electronics platform at the very heart of the company's system concept, as part of a software update. With some inspired lateral thinking on behalf of d&b's developers, a cardioid performance for the Q and B2 subwoofers has been implemented in the D12's digital domain.

CSA is a method of increasing directivity at low frequencies without the need for very large arrays. Germany - L.U.C.A.S - originally introduced in 1998 - is a lightweight ultra compact active system. The new L.U.C.A.S 600 was influenced by the ideas, suggestions and experience of users collected over the past few years allowing it to do everything that made its predecessor popular and much more. The system is now significantly more compact with a 12" speaker with the subwoofer sized between L.U.C.A.S XT and L.U.C.A.S 1000.

There is also improved low-end performance with a newly tuned enclosure and special 12" woofer. UK - Yamaha launched the PM5000 as its ultimate analogue live desk. "This may be one of Yamaha's last consoles of this type, so we really wanted to get it right, particularly with regard to sound quality," said Terry Halton of Yamaha R&D. "The development of this desk has been about thinking and applying all the things we've learned from talking with the engineers who use our desks in the live environment. Reliability is a big issue and we've retained that focus as a priority - which is why we apply so much time to in house testing."

Ray Furze, one of the first sound engineers to test the desk at a live show, said: "I used the board on a one-off show with The Beautiful South and was sold on it straight away. The Netherlands - The new dmXLAN Node 1 from ELC Lighting is an Ethernet node allowing the conversion to Ethernet (Artnet protocol) of one DMX universe, input or output. For fixed installations, such as theatres or conference centres, the cabinet will be mounted on the wall, with the display in front and the DMX connector pointing downwards, avoiding the risk of connectors and cables getting in the way of feet or flightcases, etc. The Ethernet is connected internally through hardwire connection. In the truss-mount version, an Ethercon connector from Neutrik is placed beside the DMX socket. The cabinet is fitted with a built-in M10 nut on the bottom for a truss clamp and a hole is provided for the safety hook. In both cases, the 5-pin XLR connector can be set up as a DMX input or output. Node1 is powered through the Ethernet cable, as specified by the IEEE 802.3 standard.

Swelite W-DMX is based on the technology and thinking of GSM, with the same security of transmission including Frequency Hopping (FHSS) and Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA) once developed by the US Army for safe and encrypted communication during wartime.
