UK - Wybron is launching and previewing the Nexera DX at PLASA 2007. The Nexera DX combines Wybron's award winning virtually silent colour changing fixture with a dimmer and 24V power supply.

The Nexera DX is designed to provide colour changing and dimming functions in a single DMX/RDM fixture that is easy to maintain and troubleshoot. The system is fully Remote Device Management (RDM) compatible and interfaces with the Wybron InfoTrace Control and Management System to provide ease of installation and maintenance.

Not only is it the company's 10th Birthday, but the 2007 show will mark the moment when it sells the 2007th of its FocusHAND/FocusBRAIN wireless DMX remote control units.

Designed to allow remote control of lanterns in a rig with any lighting consoles, the current FocusBRAIN XL and FocusHAND2 both offer the same compact, rugged handheld remote, coupled with wireless receivers that merge control from the remote with the DMX data from the lighting console, giving an operator direct control of DMX channels independently of the lighting console.

USA - Wybron will launch the DPS-850, a distributed dimmer and power supply unit that provides an 800 watt dimmer and 50 watt power supply, at PLASA 07. The DPS-850 is a standalone distributed dimmer that is designed for retrofit installations or remote locations.

"We created the DPS-850 especially with the small to medium theatre and houses of worship in mind," says Miles Dudgeon, director of marketing at Wybron. "These users are frequently housed in historical or older buildings and often do not have the ability to add what could be significant new wiring for centralised dimming. To simplify the adoption of our Nexera and other products, Wybron's DPS-850 will bring dimming to the fixture so there is minimal need to run new circuits and control wiring."

Canada - Richmond Sound Design has announced the release and first sales of its new SoundMan-Designer software which duplicates the functions of its award winning AudioBox model AB1616 Theatre Sound and Show Controller, of which hundreds are still in constant use worldwidein theatres, theme parks, cruise ships, museums and displays. SoundMan-Designer provides a simple and logical upgrade path as new versions can be downloaded at any time, says the company.

SoundMan-Designer Windows software uses any standard ASIO audio interface to provide 16 live inputs, 16 outputs and 16 tracks of playback, exactly as AudioBox users have enjoyed for over a decade.

Included is a wide range of audio and show control capabilities, all in real time. Up to 12 bands of parametric EQ, five seconds of delay, automatic fades, mutes, solos, submastering and volume linking are available in every input

Australia - Enttec Pty and CAST Software have released a wysiwyg driver for DMX USB Pro. The companies report that testing is now complete of a new, inexpensive driver that enables wysiwyg users to plug their DMX consoles into an Enttec DMX USB Pro, which acts as the interface to their computer.

The DMX USB Pro is already supported by over a dozen software packages, ranging from lighting control programmes (ShowCAD, LightFactory, MagicQ, FreeStyler) to Media Servers (Arkaos, Resolume), visualizers and miscellaneous other software programmes (Virtual Magic Sheet, Capture).

While wysiwyg supports numerous lighting consoles directly through Ethernet, relatively few third-party developers create hardware interfaces that are compatible with the programme. CAST Software has included the relevant library file in wysiwyg Perform Release 20.

UK - Celebrating its 30th birthday at PLASA07, James Thomas Engineering (JTE) will be unveiling the beginning of a new corporate identity and announcing the restructuring of the sales team.

Andy Walters will head up the sales team supported by Chris Waller as special projects manager. Walters has been involved with PixelRange for the last five years, but has returned to the generic lighting and truss side of JTE to concentrate on the development of the existing product range and the creation of new concepts.

Walters explains, "The next few months will be an exciting time, we will present two new product catalogues at PLASA and new web site will be launched towards the end of the year. Both Chris and I are looking forward to new JTE era."

UK - LSC Lighting Systems, Australian designers and manufacturers of lighting control equipment, will launch the new Redback Dimmer at PLASA07. The Redback will be unleashed at 2pm on Monday 10 September at the LSC booth D83, part of the White Light Zone.

Available as a 2RU (with rear mount connectors) or a 4RU (with front mount connectors), the Redback offers programmable Min. and Max. Levels and dimmer curves for each channel, a soft-patch facility, and on-board support for six internal scenes with fade times and six chases (with speed control), allowing it to be used as a stand alone dimmer.

UK - DMi D&M Installation has announced that it only recommends the use of Kingston Technology Compact Flash memory cards in its Marantz Professional range of solidstate recorders. The recommendation is the result of a compatibility assurance scheme developed in partnership with Kingston Technology.

Under the cooperative scheme, Kingston Technology's R&D department has rigourously tested its range of CF cards with all Marantz Professional's PMD products, and has provided a list of all compatible memory cards on its website (www.kingston.com/ukroot).

UK - Visual Productions has released version 1.48 of the VisualDMX Lighting control software in time to introduce the new features to visitors during PLASA 07. The new VisualDMX release features several enhancements to the software. Users will notice a revised Matrix Mania! dashboard for the control of matrix set-ups; the changes in this user interface improve the usability and compatibility with touch screen control.

The most significant improvement in this version is the new Action Editor. This editor replaces the old Cue Editor offering even more programming functions than before. Additionally, the Action Editor also enables events to be triggered by a real-time scheduler and a timer mechanism.

UK - ETC is to show its two newest consoles at PLASA 07: the Eos system, for sophisticated control over multimedia lighting productions, and SmartFade ML, the compact, portable desk.

Eos won the Product Award for Lighting at Showtech 2007, the control system's second such honour - last year it took the Product of the Year Award for debuting product when it was introduced at LDI. But the Showtech award was the first ever European award.

The SmartFade ML is designed for small touring acts, schools, product launches, corporate events and other applications, as it brings professional features like palettes, parameter "fan" and built-in dynamiceffects to novice and experienced users alike.
