UK - Stage Electrics has introduced the Encore 'Squelly', its new CE-approved 2-way 15 amp adaptor. With first-hand knowledge of the failings of some previous adaptors, Adrian Searle, Stage Electrics' technical manager, was heavily involved with the design to ensure the product met the strict criteria he had set. The Squelly has a unique offset socket design to prevent cable fouling; its small footprint makes it easy to use with 3- and 6-way dimmers, and the traditional square design with moulded grips ensures it is easily removed from sockets. The Squelly is also shuttered, un-fused and has shrouded pins. The product is in stock and available today from any branch of Stage Electrics.

UK - Out Board have supplied Star Events Group with a pair of CM6 chain-hoist controllers and their new LiftSafe product, as the main control system for eleven 2-tonne CM Lodestar hoists deployed to fly the massive new Wembley Arena mother-grid built and supplied by the company.

Star rigging consultant Phil Broad's brief to Out Board was to provide a failsafe system that would halt all the hoists if it detected any one or more of them stopped or failed to move. This was achieved by fitting each of the hoists with Out Board's high-resolution optical encoder modules, the outputs of which were all connected back to the new LiftSafe Hoist Controller Safety System located in the CM6 controller rack high in the roof of the Arena.

LiftSafe provides a bridge for the CM6 hoist controllers' linked Remote GO button which gets interrupted immediately if the system senses a break in transm

Australia - Silently interfacing -10dB unbalanced consumer electronics with +4 dB.Balanced professional equipment has always been a problem. Hum and noise generated by a mismatch at this point will be amplified throughout the studio, broadcast or live sound system.

ARX has introduced the Balance 8, an 8 channel audio balancer and level optimizer specifically designed to handle this critical task.

ARX's proprietary balancing circuits take the -10dB levels from CD players, cassette and tape players, DAT recorders, digital 8 track recorders, and effortlessly transform them into the balanced signals that all professional audio systems expect. Inputs are unbalanced RCA connectors, and outputs are industry standard balanced 3 pin XLR type.

Pairs of Gain Mode switches on the front panel let you select unity gain through the Balance 8, using it as a balancer only, or as a level opti

Belgium - Philips Lumileds Lighting Company announced today that it has established new luminance performance records for solid-state lighting technology at 1 Amp. Among the new benchmarks reported by Philips are:
For white devices, luminance of 38 meganits (Mcd/m2), approximately 50% more luminance than that of an automotive headlamp halogen bulb (~25 meganits) was achieved.
For InGaN blue devices, a radiance of 200mW/mm2sr was realised.
For InGaN green devices, luminance of 37 meganits (Mcd/m2) was achieved.

"These solid-state light sources - that fit on the head of a matchstick - demonstrate light output performance levels well beyond what is possible from today's state-of-the-art LEDs and are indicative of the evolutionary research and development work being done at Philips Lumileds. These achievements will significantly affect the performance and design of
