UK - Marantz Professional has announced the release of its CC4001P Studioline 5-Carousel CD Changer. This is an upgraded replacement for the CC4300, with many new features. Principal among these is that the CD changer will play up to five CD-R/RW and MP3 discs, providing a jukebox of nearly 5,000 tracks. Up to 999 tracks can be contained on a single disc.

The multi-featured machine also incorporates dual digital (coaxial and optical) outputs as well as volume-adjustable headphone output and a bi-directional RS-232C terminal.

Although the previous model (CC4300P) also included an RS-232C terminal, the specifications were unidirectional - only for executing commands. The CC4001P improves on this by supporting bi-directional communication, in which the operating status is sent in reply to commands issued from the controller. This enables customers to prepare a more user-friendly

UK - Launched in April and being shown in the UK for the first time at PLASA 2006 is dbx's DriveRack 4820 processor. The second generation of the DriveRack concept, launched last year with the DriveRack 4800, aims to provide users with all the processing and control they need to EQ and manage loudspeaker systems in large-scale live installations. Last year's 4800 processor kicked off the new DriveRack range in style, with its large colour display and plenty of front-panel controls to access the processing power. Now the 4820 provides a more affordable alternative, with a tamperproof front-panel user interface and an emphasis on using the System Architect software to access the functions of the unit in detail.

The 4820 is otherwise unchanged - it has the same four inputs and eight outputs on analogue XLR and AES/EBU digital connectors, the same 96kHz processing engine, and the sa

Portugal - Sintefex Audio and inventor Mike Kemp have announced that the US patent office has now granted two patents on the EQ and dynamics sampling technology used in the company's flagship award-winning FX8000 Replicator, and under licence in the Focusrite Liquid Mix and Liquid Channel.

Mike Kemp said: "I was investigating reasons why digital processing wasn't sounding good 10 years ago when I invented the techniques covered in these two patents. There have been many other people wanting to do the same, perhaps inspired by technical papers and demonstrations I have given over the past few years. I'm pleased that although it has taken a long time to get these patents through the international system and issued in the United States, at least the priority of my ideas has been acknowledged to precede many recent offerings."

The two patents cover both the much discusse

UK - Launch earlier this year at ProLight+Sound inFrankfurt, the Tube from G-LEC is the first 'walk-through' LED system. The Tube follows the same principles as the company's highly acclaimed transparent LED frame systems - but minus the frame. Without the frame, each individual transparent tube hangs free, so walking through the G-LEC Tube is like walking through a slash or beaded curtain. With the ability to create a 'forest' of LEDs, including different lengths of individual tubes, this brings enormous potential to lighting and set designers, from having performers literally walk through the set to a dramatic 3D design, say G-LEC. Like the G-LEC Classic and the PhantomFrame systems, the G-LEC Tube is transparent to light, audio and wind.

Germany - D-MEXX have started to ship Signal Splitters for transmission paths between audio devices, compliant with the MADI standard. The D-MEXX Splitters are passive, optical devices; consequently, they are free of latency and require no external power source. Three different versions are immediately available.

The simplest model splits an incoming audio signal (transmitted over optical fibreglass cable) to two identical outputs. The same can be said for the "Dual"-version (two input signals to four outputs, respectively two outputs for each incoming signal). By connecting one of the outputs of the Dual unit back to its second input, one can achieve a tripling of a single audio signal. The "Triplex"-version splits two incoming audio signals each to three outputs (for a total of 6 outputs). Here, too, could one use an "internal cascade" to effectiv
