USA - Zaxcom, the manufacturer of pro audio equipment for the television and film industries, has announced that its popular TRX900 wireless microphone system is now available with the Zaxcom Recording Wireless feature. This patent-pending option records up to 12 hours of audio directly to an internal memory card for later use in the post house, eliminating concern over audio loss due to RF or EMI interference during transmission.

The system's new internal recording capability is particularly useful for reality television productions or other programming where ad lib dialogue is used frequently. Because the audio is recorded directly to the body pack, there's no chance of missing anything, even if the sound mixer wasn't expecting dialogue from a given actor or reality show participant. The sound mixer's job is further simplified by the fact that perfect reception is no longer a

UK - Cadac Electronics Plc unveiled its new S-Digital mixing console at PLASA '06 this week at Earl's Court in London. The Cadac S-Digital, designed from the ground up specifically for theatre sound applications, "sets a new yardstick in digital console design for live sound", say Cadac.

In a major departure from conventional paradigms, the S-Digital is conceived to reflect the surface architecture of Cadac's industry standard J-Type analogue console. It combines the J-Type's hallmark audio quality, tools and features with the operational and creative benefits of audio manipulation and control in the digital domain - producing a digital console that sounds, looks and behaves like a familiar analogue desk.

The Cadac S-Digital builds on the company's 20-year history at the forefront of theatre sound. In its basic configuration, it offers a minimum specification of 72 i

UK - The new Mania EFX800 from Martin Professional is a 150W discharge effect light - a broad, sweeping flower effect punched through a rotating glass colour paddle producing a dynamic, ever-changing look and feel, say the company.

The EFX800's light output has a wide 170° spread which rotates and sweeps - wider than any flower effect light in its class, meaning more space can be covered with fewer fixtures. A separate gobo wheel houses 12 gobo designs with fast strobe effects achievable via a separate shutter.

Martin says that the superior quality and ease of servicing of the Mania brand, plus its long-life discharge lamp (6000 hours, included) offers users great savings. Designed primarily for installation use, this versatile effect light includes a number of mounting options yet is durable enough for life on the road. The compact EFX800 is DMX controllable for ultimate

UK - This year's PLASA Show saw the release of the new Goboland Steel Collection 2007 catalogue. Just months after its first presentation at PALME in Dubai and at ABTT in London, the new edition was very well received by the PLASA audience, say the company. The new catalogue now contains a thousand designs covering a comprehensive range of break-ups, foliage, multi-lingual greetings and more.

All of Goboland's steel designs are now available on glass: to do this, all of the designs have been recreated with the glass gobo manufacturing process in mind, so all the steel 'bridges' have been removed. Furthermore, a number of designs have been sensitively redesigned for reduced image sizes, allowing the use of these designs in fixtures which take smaller size gobos.

The new catalogue also sees the inclusion of the existing range of gobos from leading lighting filter specialist Lee

UK - As the originator of transparent imagery in LED lighting and effects, G-LEC remained one step ahead at this year's PLASA show, introducing its new fibre optic based data transfer technology, 100 times faster than existing copper wire cabling.

This new technology, plus upgraded software, has been integrated into the company's PhantomFrame system, the new system being called G-LEC Phantom II.

The technology gives such fine control over the graphics that images are rendered pixel-by-pixel, enabling curves to appear as true curves, instead of being pixellated. For most occasions such accuracy is not necessary, but it is vital for many corporate identities. Graphics such as circular logos - VW, BMW - are represented with crystal clear precision.

The high speed data transfer technology also opens up the way to build much larger systems and special constructions.

This proprietary technology has been incorporated across the Beadlight range, including the ice*lighting and Light*Wand ranges of entertainment and architectural lighting.

Pat Wisby, managing director of Beadlight, was delighted with the news that the company's first patent had been granted: "This award-winning technology allows us to produce the high

Australia - RDM is the Remote Device Management add-on for DMX512, it allows 2 way communication between lights and the control system.

The ENTTEC suite consists of three applications. Controller application mimics an RDM controller device which allows the user to discover, get and set information (such as setting the DMX address) in RDM responders (devices). Responder applications mimics an RDM responder like a dimmer of moving light allowing the user to retrieve and set different parameters, for example setting the DMX address or getting the lamp hours. The RDM sniffer is an RDM diagnostics tool that monitors RDM packets travelling on a DMX line and decodes the packets into a human readable format.

The RDM controller and Responder both use the low cost DMX USB Pro interface enabling anyone in the industry to take their first steps with RDM today, says the company. The ENTTEC

USA - The new Spectrum 575 is a quiet, exterior wash light with the wide palette of a CMY seamless colour blending system. Coverage is substantial due to a fairly wide beam angle field, between 7 and 40 degrees, via a motorised zoom.

A quality 575-watt discharge lamp provides an intense wash even in darker colours. Light intensity is 29 foot-candles at 98-foot throw using the widest angle for projection. The motorised zoom allows further manipulation of the intensity and throw distance of light.

An IP rating of 54, fast internal cooling, a solid weatherproof metal casing, thermal switch protection and water resistant cable connectors ensure dependability even in rigourous weather conditions. A full, motorised dimmer further helps maintain the consistency and precise control of selected hues when the natural light changes.

UK - Demonstrated for the first time in the UK at PLASA 2006, the Mbox Extreme media server from PRG is billed as being one of the simplest and easiest media servers around. It offers a full editing suite and streamlined programming with crossfades between clips being created on a single layer.

Since its introduction at LDI 2005, the Mbox Extreme has built up a strong following, having been used on Broadway shows, opera and corporate events. During 2006 Lestat - a short-lived but technically acclaimed Broadway production - saw eight Mbox Extreme media servers being used to synchronise and edge-blend multiple projections to form the large images that had been conceived for the show.

For corporate events, where ideas about the presentation can change from minute to minute, Mbox Extreme gives "absolute control" over the video output, allowing the operator to make

UK - MTR says that although you might not think that there was much of a demand for stand-alone phantom power supplies these days, its experience with its 4-channel PPS-48 seems to indicate otherwise. Indeed, the company reports that in response to requests, it is now offering a two-channel version - the PPS-248 - also mains powered and with the same rock solid and ultra quiet 48V, housed in a smaller RF-screened heavy gauge steel box. "The PPS-248 is suitable for all those older, well-loved desks out there without phantom power, for one or two condenser mics in computer project studios, schools, houses of worship, etc," say the company.
