UK - Trident is adding a sunlight readable large format 32-inch LCD panel to its portfolio. The W32L300 display features transflective technology to allow viewing even in bright daylight, making it especially well suited to retail applications such as shop windows and estate agents.

The new WinMate transflective coating is a patent pending innovation that equips TFT LCDs with a reflective mode of illumination without compromising transmissive illumination. The display reflects ambient light passing through the LCD cell and employs the reflected light as its illumination. The stronger the ambient light, the brighter the LCD appears. As a result, the display can be viewed under all lighting conditions, including direct sunlight, regardless of the LCD's original brightness.

The new open-frame display has a 31.5-inch (800mm) diagonal viewing area with 16:9 aspect ratio. It has a t

USA - The various audio/video interfaces on most of today's HDTV sources and displays do not always connect easily to each another. DVI, for example, doesn't transmit audio with its high definition resolutions up to 1920x1200 (1080p) though HDMI does.

The DVI Audio to HDMI adapter from Gefen allows you to send HD video to the display with digital audio in TOSlink and S/PDIF formats. The adapter comes equipped with one DVI, one TOSlink and one S/PDIF input. The HDMI display and audio receiver connect to the unit's digital outputs. Installation is plug and play with the unit running on its own 5v power supply.

The component audio to HDMI adapter is a unique device that connects component sources or VGA computers to an HDMI display, patching HD video together with two channels of audio (left and right) to the HDMI display. This offers the most convenient method of linking an anal

UK - XL Video supplied a 20 by 4.8 metre landscape curved SoftLED backdrop and Catalyst digital media server control system for Irish comedian Dara O'Briain's DVD shoot at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane, London for Open Mike Productions.

Series producer Alex Hardcastle specifically wanted a simple 'screen effect' with no text or recognizable images, just abstract effect and colours. He wanted about eight or 10 different colour states that could slowly morph throughout the show, matching his cues for the two acts and encore.

SoftLED was suggested as the ideal solution, and the deal was set up by XL's Al Green who says: "Open Mike specifically wanted controllable, changing colour states with different intensities across the screen, as opposed to solid colours."

XL achieved the basic brief that the audience should be concentrating on O'Briain's dialogue and banter, rat

UK - On ticket sales alone, the current tour by Take That has taken everyone's breath away. Having split up 10 years ago, it's a tribute to their status as Britain's first real boy band that they can attract even bigger audiences today than in their heyday. But the passage of time imposes certain burdens, as tour production manager Chris Vaughan explained: "The key difference between this tour and the ones in the nineties is that this has to be as spectacular as we can make it."

Building that scale of spectacle has involved the talents of Bill Lazlett and Simon Tutchener for stage set and lighting respectively. At the behest of band svengali Kim Gavin the presentation also includes arguably the largest LED screen ever used for an arena show, as supplied by large-scale screen specialists Creative Technology (CT).
