Portugal - Arcstream AV worked with Hipnose Events in Portugal to create a giant projection screen, laser show and the largest MagicSymbol demonstration ever attempted to launch Portugal Telecom's high profile rebrand.

Arcstream AV sourced a massive 25m x 10m projection screen which formed a backdrop to the stage set, Hipnose Events used six Barco 20K projectors edge blended to create the image.

Arcstream commissioned Harkness Screens to manufacture the Translite Midnight Rear projection screen, a dark grey screen which produced a stage backdrop,ommiting all ambient light in the venue, as well as giving perfect contrast to the image.

UK - In recent months, TED AV has appointed three new members of staff to its team: Sam Nankivell is now business development executive. He joins from Barking's Broadway Theatre, where he was operations manager.

Leon Hudston joins as project manager UK. Hudston was formerly project manager for P6 UK, where he managed a number of new-build retail projects, including the Desigual store in London's Westfield shopping centre.

Elliot Ryan joins as in-house technician. Ryan was previously technician at the Radlett Centre. Romania - A major spectacular marked the Rumanian Soccer Association's celebration of its centennial in Bucharest's Parliament Palace on 13 May, 2009. Around 1,200 invited guests from around the world were on hand to witness a laser performance by tarm Showlaser that was the highlight of the evening's programme, and, once again, Ralf Lottig's team managed to top everything they had seen before.

Poweful, full-colour lasers projected ultrahigh-resolution graphics on movable, black gauze-screens stretched across the stage, creating the impression of giant holograms. The laser finale that followed filled the entire hall.

UEFA-President Michel Platini thanked the host organisation, describing the occasion as "a wonderful evening with the most creative, brightest, and colourful laser performance I have ever seen."

UK - Business for Lancashire-based Water Sculptures is on a high this month, wowing audiences around the UK with two amazing water installations that follow hotly on the heels of a year of fabulous events, says the company.

Water Sculptures has been in collaboration again with celebrated choreographer Kim Gavin and renowned production manager Chris Vaughan, for Take That's Circus stadium tour.

For the band's Back for Good number, performed on the stadium's central satellite "B" stage, a 7m high screen of water appears from jets concealed within the stage floor, which shields the boys from their screaming fans. As they walk into and out of the water screen, the water disappears and re-appears as though by magic.

The series is an expansion to Christie's Mirage Series of 3-Chip DLP, 3-D Active Stereo projectors. The four new projectors, the Mirage WU3, Mirage WU7, Mirage WU12 and Mirage WU18 offer more pixels, with WUXGA 1920 x 1200 native resolution and brightness options of 3,000, 6,600, 12,000 and 18,000 ANSI lumens.

The projectors feature built-in edge-blending and Christie Light Output Control (LITELOC) for constant brightness tracking and monitoring of lamp output. With 2,500 attendees from the restaurant and hotel divisions of Whitbread meeting for the annual conference, Buckmark Productions had to redesign the conference set, creating an 'in the round' seating system with a circular stage in the middle.

Inaugurated on 4 June, the centerpiece of the 20m PLN (4.6 million euro) project is a powerful geyser capable of shooting a water column of up to 30m into the air. Three smaller geysers and a range of dynamic nozzles complete with a water screen, (the first in Poland) are accompanied by a complex lighting, laser and multimedia projection system. Russia - Christie reports that its projectors have been deployed at the 31st Moscow Film Festival (MIFF). Christie worked with Moscow based Kinoproekt - the largest cinema equipment integrator in Russia, the exclusive supplier to the MIFF.

Four of Moscow's key cinema theatres were used for the Festival's screenings including, the multiplex October and Pushkinsky cinema (Karo Film network), the Khudozhestvenny cinema and the Kinocenter.

The 11-screen October film complex, which opened in 2007, is Moscow's biggest multi-screen complex and one of Russia's first cinemas to opt for a digital solution.
