Germany - This year's spectacular MTV Europe Music Awards were held at the O2 World in Berlin, where XL Video's UK and French offices combined forces to provide a dynamic interactive video backdrop for this high profile event.

XL Video France supplied a massive 22 projector system managed by Klaas Eecloo, comprising of Barco FLMs for front and rear projection on the main set, two IMAG projection screens either side of the stage, a PixLED F-40 LED screen in the "Glamour Pit" and a Barco Encore screen management system to size and shape the content for the screens.

Chris Saunders from XL UK took on the role of screens director under direction from video consultant Richard Turner, and headed up XL's on site team, following on from his work at the MTV African Music Awards in Nairobi, Kenya a couple of weeks previously.

USA - Prism Projection's RevEAL Color Wash lighting fixture was awarded Best Debuting Product for Lighting at the LDI 2009 in Orlando, Florida. Products being unveiled for the first time at LDI are eligible for the award, and winners are selected by a secret panel of industry experts. The award was presented in ceremony at the LDI exhibit hall on 21 November.

The Color Wash is the first product released by RevEAL, Revolutionary Entertainment & Architectural Lighting.

After the awards ceremony, Prism Projection's president and founder Garrett Young commented, "The RevEAL CW is our first product for entertainment lighting and this our first time exhibiting at LDI. To have the industry welcome us with this award is truly a great honour. Australia - CAMCO and its Australian distributor Group Technologies have been chosen as the power amplifier supplier for the primary AV systems in the new Melbourne Convention Centre.

USA - Green Hippo once again received an award at the 2009 LDI Exhibition, scooping the Best Debuting Product for Projection for their new UberPan component. The award was received by marketing director James Ross Heron and Special Projects team member Tom Etra at the awards ceremony held on 21 November in Orlando Florida.

UberPan is a multi-server screen management component allowing multiple Hippotizers to create a single virtual canvas. Connect as many displays as you have outputs and in as many different sizes and configurations as you like. Screens can be a mixture of different physical sizes and resolutions. Once configured, the 'herd' of Hippotizers are seen as one single server allowing easy realtime control and live manipulation from Green Hippo's ZooKeeper control centre.

Hong Kong - The 8,000sq.m Hong Kong Space Museum has recently renovated the Stanley Ho Space Theatre. The theatre, sheltered beneath the museum's famous egg-shaped dome, is part of the planetarium area of the museum.

Integrated by PCCW, a Medialon Control system is part of the cutting-edge digital planetarium system installed in the Stanley Ho Space theatre.

The Hong Space Museum, which hosts a diameter of 23m hemispherical projection, is one of the first planetarium in the world to possess a fully automatic control system in its theatre. It has also been the first to have installed an OMNIMAX film projector in Asia.

UK - HSL supplied lighting and video equipment plus crew, and designed a bespoke DJ booth for two recent sold-out performances by The Swedish House Mafia at London's Brixton Academy.

The shows were presented and produced by Cream and Loudsound Events and HSL was working for technical co-ordinators, BPM, who also supplied pyro and lasers.

SHM Management's Amy Thomson's brief to BPM was to have the 'biggest and best' show possible. BPM worked closely with HSL to design a full show based on a four section lighting rig, action-packed with strobe pods, moving heads, specialist LED products and three large video wall sections.

USA - Martin Professional scored a hat trick at the second annual ESTA Rock Our World Awards coming away with two best in category accolades and a special recognition award. Martin's P3-100 System Controller won Best Product of the Year while the Grand Mosque won for Best Project of the Year. UK - Orange's new customer experience store in Milton Keynes has become the first retail installation of the new Samsung Ultra Thin Bezel LCDs videowall.

Integrators Fujitsu worked with videowall experts PSCo to deliver a 4x4 videowall using the latest LCD technology from Samsung. The 46" screens each measure over 4m in width and nearly 2.5m high and customers in the store can interact at close range with the screens.

The interactive Mexican wave, designed by London based digital content company Poke is a feature that improves the customer experience. Visitors to the store have the opportunity to be videoed on a phone instore, doing their best Mexican wave, which is then uploaded to the wall.

Royal News - The Queen has been entertained by a host of stars at the first Royal Variety Performance to be held in Blackpool since 1955. The town's illuminations had lit the way as the royal party made its way to the Opera House in the Winter Gardens. The charity event's host, comedian Peter Kay, welcomed the Queen to "the entertainment capital of the world". The show's performers included Lady Gaga, Bette Midler, Whoopi Goldberg and Britain's Got Talent winners Diversity.

Blackpool's Opera House, which seats 2,900 people, was used to host the show in the 1950s era of acts such as Morecambe and Wise, Arthur Askey and George Formby. The annual event was first staged in 1912 and the proceeds go towards the Variety Artistes' Benevolent Fund. Rent-All offers a wide range of lighting, sound, rigging and video equipment, and the purchase of the assets of Focus Show Equipment contributes to the further development of its rental range.

Germany - 2009 has seen the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall celebrated in the German capital, culminating on 9 November with a Festival of Freedom at the Brandenburg Gate. With thousands of Berliners wanting to join in and watch speeches by some of the world's leading politicians, Lighthouse LED screens played their part in relaying the celebrations to the vast crowds.

Wien-based Global Bright Media, supported by AVMS of Potsdam, supplied a total of nine Lighthouse LED screens, three of which were located at the Brandenburg Gate itself.

Each comprised 40sq.m of R7-ER panels to provide visual reinforcement for live music, speeches and a symbolic procession through the Gate by many of the world's top politicians, including German chancellor Angela Merkel, herself raised in the former East Germany.

UK - Oxford Street's Gap Store wanted to make an impact over the busy Christmas period and has called in the help of an Infinite Plasma videowall from PSCo.

Gap's flagship outlet in London has a temporary installation of a 3 x 3 plasma wall to create festive cheer and relay Gap's Christmas season advertisements to shoppers in store.

Interactive design agency, Osmotronic specified and installed the screens to meet the store's brief. Director Matthew Falla explained, "The idea was to create impact and display both adverts and motion based content for the Christmas season. Working with Gap's internal creative team and US agency, we created a looping motion graphic show reel of the brand's Christmas campaign which was shown on the screens.

South Africa - Gearhouse South Africa's Cape Town branch supplied all technical elements - staging, lighting, audio, LED and technical crew to Out The Box Productions for the annual Switching on of The Festive Lights in Adderley Street, Cape Town.

This year, the event featured a distinctive soccer theme, highlighting the upcoming 2010 FIFA World Cup and the imminence of the Final Draw, that took place in Cape Town a few days later.

The switch on was conducted by Cape Town's Executive Mayor Dan Plato, accompanied by FIFA Secretary General, Jerome Valcke and Bafana Bafana star, Matthew Booth. A seven-hour concert on the main stage at Adderley Street's Fountain Circle in the centre of town saw a star studded line up of acts representing the vibrant cultural diversity of the city, including Ringo Madlingozi, the Rockets, Emo Adams, Ready D and Jozi.

Canada - While country rock band Blue Rodeo does have 11 studio albums to their name with over 3m copies sold, it is in the live environment where they truly seem at home. For their latest cross-Canada tour, lighting designer/director Brad Wagg is using a selection of Compulite Vectors to control a rig which accommodates venues big and small.

A Compulite user for many years, Wagg had production supplier Metalworks Productions bring in a Vector Red for the first leg of the tour before scaling down to a Vector PC system for the latter part of the tour, including many one-off festival gigs. For their annual hometown show at the Molson Amphitheatre in Toronto, the Vector Red returned to control an expanded rig which added a new video element.

Italy - The We Will Rock You musical opened to audiences at the Allianz Theatre in Milan on 4 December, running to 6 January 2010. Once again the displayLED team is involved in the action on stage and has supplied four digiLED screens to the latest production.

The team's history with the WWRY production team goes back a long time as Guy Horrigan supplied the LED screens for WWRY's original show in London's Dominion Theatre, tours in Australia, Japan, and the Cologne, Zurich and the US residencies, the later being at Las Vegas' Paris Casino.

Bob Kronman was head of LED with the show at the Dominion Theatre and later installed the LED screens in Melbourne, Australia for the tour's first residency and in Zurich for its successful run there.

UK - Exploring the impact that humans have on the global environment is a key theme of the Eden Project, 'global garden' located in a former china clay pit in Cornwall. Fittingly, that theme was also the centrepiece of Beth Derbyshire's multimedia presentation Anthem, performed at Eden this autumn, with BrightSign HD1010 media players, supplied by UK distributor Pixels UK, driving the visual element.

UK - The organisers of EvenTech Scotland exhibition, which was due to take place on 10-11 February 2010 in Glasgow, have announced that the event has been postponed.

A statement issued by Scattered Media blamed the "current economic climate and the strain this is having on many companies' budgets at present" and said that they were "in the process of looking at the calender to find suitable dates later in the year".
